Internal Revenue Service Information for Charities and Foundations
This site provides the most current information for charities and other nonprofits from the IRS. One left side of the page is a series of links for specific types of entities (e.g., private foundations). Foundation managers may wish to read Publication 578 “Tax Information for Private Foundations and Foundation Managers” which includes information on taxable expenditures including lobbying.

Massachusetts Attorney General’s Division of Public Charities
From here you can connect to forms, texts of regulations and legislation affecting charities (which include foundations in Massachusetts), as well as current news from the Division.

Alliance for Justice
The Alliance for Justice works to strengthen public interest advocacy. They have an array of resources and publications on their site, as well as links to training programs and sign-ups for email bulletins on advocacy issues. In addition, AFJ maintains a blog with current news for nonprofits and foundations about legal and advocacy issues. You can access the blot at: http://www.nonprofitadvocacy.blogspot.com

Charity Lobbying in the Public Interest
CLPI promotes lobbying in support of public interest issues. The CLPI site includes a tutorial on lobbying law, as well as other resources and publications.

Council on Foundations, Government Relations area
The Council on Foundations (COF) follows key legislative and regulatory developments that could have an impact on foundations and grant makers. From this site, you can follow breaking developments, as well learn what positions or recommendations COF has taken for particular issues.

Hurwit and Associates, Nonprofit Law Resource Library
Hurwit and Associates have developed an impressive “one stop shop” of materials related to nonprofit law. To access this library, check out the index on the left side of the page, where you can link to guides, sample policies, and information on specific legal requirements broken down by state.

Independent Sector
In addition to the work of convening the Nonprofit Panel, the Independent Sector (IS) maintains a government relations section of its website with breaking news and other resources. Good information for public charities as well as foundations.

Issue Source
This site has information about Massachusetts politics and policy and is supported by MassINC as well as the State House News Service. The site has a search engine, as well as browsable lists of current Massachusetts legislative issues.

Northern California Grantmakers Public Policy Grantmaking Toolkit
This online Toolkit for funders contains basic information on funding public policy, including sections on definitions and strategies of public policy and legal parameter. A more in-depth look at public policy grantmaking, under a section entitled “Digging Deeper,” provides information on evaluating public policy grantmaking and case studies of NCG members’ public policy funding.

US code search
For those moments when you want to read the source documents about foundation regulations. Very useful search engine for looking up the laws that govern nonprofits and foundations. Sections of the code that are specifically relevant to foundations and public policy include 26 USC Section 4945, and Treasury regulation 53.2945.
